Science as a process seeks to understand and explain phenomena.  James B. Conant described science as “… an interconnected series of concepts and conceptual schemes that have developed as a result of experimentation and observation and are fruitful of further experimentation and observations.”1

To develop these concepts and schemes scientist use cyclically each activity of observing, questioning, measuring, imagining, induction, hypothesizing, generalization and theory, deduction, testing, and communication, with mutual criticism and discourse, to methodically confirm or deny an observation and/or explanation.
